Gossamer gear’s 60l Mariposa

I’ve been a big fan of Gossamer Gear’s backpacks ever since I hiked the John Muir Trail a few summers back. I was looking for a pack large enough to hold a bear canister (which is required in the Sierras) while also knowing that I would have no idea what the lack of oxygen at 10,000 feet above sea level would feel like to my normally-living-at-sea-level-lungs. I wanted to lighten up as much as my budget could afford in order to give my body a standing chance, and the Mariposa was the perfect choice!

With 60L of volume, it definitely has all the capacity I need to go the distance between long resupplies. The 4 exterior pockets make finding frequently-used items a breeze, and weighing in at just two-pounds empty, it’s also super comfortable to wear on your back.

As a woman with wide hips & a short torso, I’ve often had to make compromises when it comes to the fit of my gear — the body of a pack being too tall for my shoulders, or fitting great in the torso, but not being able to buckle the hip belt. Being able to order a separately sized hip belt and pack body for the Mariposa is as close to that Goldilocks moment of being juuuust right that I’m gonna get!

Gear fits every body differently, and the most important part of backpack shopping is finding what works for your particular shape. If you’re craving a bit more flexibility than what the larger brands have, I recommend giving Gossamer Gear a go.
