Feeling like you want to head for the hills? A Further Afield Day Hike will take you just far enough away to forget about the stresses of the big city, but not so far that you spend all day in transit to get there.

Where: Kerhonkson, New York

When: Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. 9:00 AM to meet onsite; 7:00 AM via public transit from NYC. Transit details provided upon signup.

Native Land Recognition: Munsee Lenape & Esopus

Distance: 5 miles

Rating: Easy to Moderate – the gentle, rolling terrain of this hike is good for newbies and experienced hikers alike, while winter conditions make it a bit more spicy (and fun!)

Estimated Hiking Time: ~4 hours (including snack & photo breaks)

Price: $105.00 / two hikers! (or $52.50 each)

Inclusive of: Expert support from New York State Licensed Guide(s), gear check-list upon signup, Winter traction gear (micro-spikes and/or snowshoes as needed), logistical support, local knowledge of where to visit post-hike, welcoming community, and positive vibes!

Not included: transportation, $10/vehicle parking fee (if driving), guide gratuity, post-hike meal/drink 

Hike Description: You’re all but guaranteed fall in love with cold-weather hiking on this wonderful winter waterfall trek through Minnewaska State Park! Not only will the beauty of the frozen falls warm you from the inside-out, but you can share your awe alongside a loved one on this special two-for-one trip! So go ahead and bring along your sweetie, your bestie, your favorite cousin, or a new-found friend, as all are welcome! And no worries, solo-trekkers can benefit from ½ price tickets too. On our 5-mile loop hike we’ll walk through frozen forests, sidle along many a swirling cascade, and even get to gaze at Awosting Falls, otherwise known as “the tallest waterfall on the planet,” (…at least according to the boss in the altered-reality-mind-space of Apple TV+’s “Severance”…), before heading back uphill to where we began. Time and energy permitting, we can gather again and warm-up post-hike at a favorite local brew-pub or café back in the real world.

This trip will run with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 in order to ensure the health and safety of all guides and participants. If the minimum has not been met 24 hours ahead of trip, we will reach out and refund, reschedule or make alternate arrangements. Liability Waiver must be completed ahead of hike in order to participate. All hikes are rain or shine.

Cancellation Policy: If you cancel 14 days or more prior to the start of your trip, you will receive a full refund, less a 10% non-refundable administration fee. If you cancel between 24 hours and 14 days ahead, you will receive a 50% refund. Anything less than 24-hours is ineligible for refund, unless trip is canceled by Girl Gotta Hike, due to dangerous conditions or any other reason.

Ride Sharing: Girl Gotta Hike encourages participants from NYC and NJ to carpool for Further Afield Adventures. Upon signup, you’ll be prompted to let us know if you have a car, or if you need a ride, and we’ll put hikers and drivers in nearby neighborhoods in touch with each other to help get everyone to trail on time.
